This is the working drawing I got to do these Giant heads for a production of Ella Enchanted at the Arvada Center, 2019. Design by Nicole Watts.

Proof of concept mock up in 1/2” scale

Full sized mock up for the Giant heads. Thats my supervisor, Meghan, holding it up.

Now I use my pattern to cut it out of the foam.

Here is the pattern put together with contact cement

Facial features made of expanding foam and batting.

It begins to take shape!

This is the start of a faux carved wood bear for a production of The Foreigner and the Arvada Center. I laminated several pieces of closed cell foam to achieve the desired size.

Subtractive carving with hot knife and lots of PPE.

Adding a bit back in with expanding foam.

Skimming it with my special sauce to give it some texture.

Voila!!! A lightweight replica of a very expensive handcarved statue. Ideal for rep theater!
